A relaxing nighttime treat!

Moon Milk is a warm and nourishing drink. It is rooted in Ayurveda principles, bringing warming spices that help everyone chill out before bed.

While I don’t strictly follow an Ayurvedic diet (or any diet for that matter!), as a Nutritional Counselor and Ayurveda Specialist, I love to incorporate Ayurvedic principles into my food and life.

I usually make it about an hour or two before we start getting ready for bed, and it's amazing how it just naturally helps everyone wind down. The spices work well for all body types, so the whole family can enjoy it together.

It's become this sweet little ritual that our family loves. I think I look forward to it as much as the kids do!

Pro tip: I pre-measure all the spices in bulk and keep them in a jar - just shake and scoop when you need it! Makes those busy evenings so much easier.

Moon Milk

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup whole milk (raw or plant-based alternative)

  • 1/4-1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder

  • A pinch of nutmeg powder

  • A pinch of cardamom powder

  • A pinch of black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon - or to taste - pure maple syrup or honey (optional)

  • optional - 1 capsule magnesium* (Magnesium Breakthrough is a favorite!)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Gently warm the milk in a small pot, add the spices, and let it simmer until desired temperature. Keep on low to avoid burning the milk. Sweeten with honey or maple syrup if desired.

For a creamy, latte-like texture, blend the mixture in a blender before serving.

*If using magnesium, blending is essential to prevent it from settling at the bottom of your cup - this ensures you get all the relaxing benefits in every sip!
