A relaxing nighttime treat!
Spiced Cocoa is a chocolate version of Moon Milk. It is rooted in Ayurveda principles, bringing warming spices that help everyone chill out before bed.
I usually make it about an hour or two before we start getting ready for bed, and it's amazing how it just naturally helps everyone wind down. The spices work well for all body types, so the whole family can enjoy it together.
It’s also great for chilly days in place of hot cocoa.
Pro tip: I pre-measure all the spices in bulk and keep them in a jar - just shake and scoop when you need it! Makes those busy evenings so much easier.
Spiced Cocoa
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup whole milk (or plant-based alternative)
1/4-1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder
A pinch of nutmeg powder
A pinch of cardamom powder
A pinch of black pepper
1 tablespoon raw cacao powder
1 teaspoon - or to taste - pure maple syrup or honey (optional)
optional - 1 capsule magnesium* (Magnesium Breakthrough is a favorite!)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Gently warm the milk in a small pot, add the spices, and let it simmer until desired temperature. Keep on low to avoid burning the milk. Sweeten with honey or maple syrup if desired.
For a creamy, latte-like texture, blend the mixture in a blender before serving.
*If using magnesium, blending is essential to prevent it from settling at the bottom of your cup - this ensures you get all the relaxing benefits in every sip!
